We study connections between both event and quasilocal horizons and the algebraic type of the Weyl tensor. The relation regarding spacelike future outer trapping horizon is analysed in four dimensions using double-null foliation.Comment: 4 pages, to appear in Proceedings of Spanish relativity meeting 201

THE COMORBIDITY OF DIABETES MELLITUS AND PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS

    Get PDF
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease affecting approximately 6% of the general population. Depression and schizophrenia are often comorbid with diabetes. There are two main ways to explain this phenomenon. Firstly, patients with diabetes mellitus have higher incidence of psychiatric disorders and secondly, antidepressants and antipsychotics may cause metabolic abnormalities. Antidepressants with noradrenergic activity have the highest potential to cause metabolic abnormalities. In schizophrenia, the risk is highest with clozapine and olanzapine pose the highest risk, moderate for risperidone and quetiapine, while ziprasidone and sertindole have not been associated with diabetes. American Diabetes Association and American Psychiatric Association suggested that optimal management of patients with schizophrenia should include baseline assessment on their weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood glucose level and lipidogram and family history on obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension and cardiovascular illness. During the first three months, weight gain should be monitored on monthly basis, while biochemical analysis should be performed after the first three months, and then once a year. In patients with significant weight gain, increase of blood glucose level or dyslipidemia, the first intervention should be switch to another antipsychotic. If necessary, a patient should be referred to an endocrinologist and advised on changing their life style

The purpose of our investigation was to perform the thermodynamic calculation of all possible reactions in the Cu-Se-O system and to explain the oxidation mechanism in various conditions. For such study, a model of copper with one single inclusion and alloy with 1.65 wt. % Se were made. Depending on time, the oxidation has been taking place at two different temperatures and two oxygen partial pressures. The oxidized samples have been investigated by DTA, optical and electron microscopy (SEM).Namjena istraživanja je izraditi termodinamički proračun svih mogućih reakcija u sustavu Cu-Se-O i obrazložiti mehanizme oksidacije u različitim uvjetima.

Dynamical Instability of Self-Tuning Solution with Antisymmetric Tensor Field

    Get PDF
We consider the dynamical stability of a static brane model that incorporates a three-index antisymmetric tensor field and has recently been proposed as a possible solution to the cosmological constant problem. Ultimately, we are able to establish the existence of time-dependent, purely gravitational perturbations. As a consequence, the static solution of interest is ``dangerously'' located at an unstable saddle point. This outcome is suggestive of a hidden fine tuning in what is an otherwise self-tuning model.Comment: 16 Pages, Latex; Discussion added but conclusions unchange

A Mass Spectral Study of Substituent Effects in Some Substituted N,N-Dimethyl-N\u27-Phenyl- and N\u27-Pyridyl-Formamidines

Several competing fragmentation reactions, initiating directly from the molecular ion, which are common to p- and m- substituted N,N-dimethyl-N\u27- phenyl-formamidine, were examined. IP, AP and daughter/parent ion ratio measurements were made to provide some insight into the substituent effects on reaction mechanisms. The results obtained were compared with those found for the compounds N,N-dimethyl-N\u27-pyridyl-4-formamidine and isomeric 3-formamidine. The substituent constant o/ for the nitrogen in the pyridine ring was determined

The article analyzes the course of pregnancy and birth outcomes among women after interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. It is concluded that cardiac arrhythmias, including complex and hemodynamic significance are not a contraindication for pregnancy in cases of adequate interventional treatment. The pregnancy and childbirth among these patients are favorable and perinatal outcomes do not differ from those of healthy women.

Human gait data mining by symbol based descriptive features

Abstract-Most medical applications which include large dataset require search by example capability. Such similaritybased retrieval has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. Although several different approaches have appeared, most are not specialized for problems of time series signals, typically found in gait analysis or ECG. This paper proposes an approach for efficient processing of human gait by using symbolization of different features by means of feature description. We evaluated this approach against database that holds limited set of kinematics, kinetic and EMG data, describing simple step (a subset of standard gait variables). The measurement was performed in the Biomechanics Laboratory at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, using 2002-ELITE system with Kistler platform (40 cm by 60 cm)

"Charged" Particle's Tunneling from Rotating Black Holes

The behavior of a scalar field theory near the event horizon in a rotating black hole background can be effectively described by a two dimensional field theory in a gauge field background. Based on this fact, we proposal that the quantum tunneling from rotating black hole can be treated as "charged" particle' s tunneling process in its effectively two dimensional metric. Using this viewpoint and considering the corresponding "gauge charge" conservation, we calculate the non-thermal tunneling rate of Kerr black hole and Myers-Perry black hole, and results are consistent with Parikh-Wilczek's original result for spherically symmetric black holes. Especially for Myers-Perry black hole which has multi-rotation parameters, our calculation fills in the gap existing in the literature applying Parikh-Wilczek's tunneling method to various types black holes. Our derivation further illuminates the essential role of effective gauge symmetry in Hawking radiation from rotating black holes.Comment: 15 pages, no figure; any comments are welcome
